Women in STEM

In 2021, the representation of women in the field of Cyber Security stood at a mere 11%. However, I am delighted to announce that by 2023, we have made significant progress, doubling the percentage to 23%. While this is a commendable achievement, it is crucial to acknowledge that there is still much work to be done.

Did you know that women often hesitate to apply for jobs unless they meet 90-100% of the qualifications listed in the job postings, whereas men are more likely to apply with as little as 10% of the qualifications? As the demand for Cybersecurity professionals continues to grow, it is imperative to address the gender disparity in the industry. This is a call to action for all women considering a career in cybersecurity: seize this opportunity and move forward with full determination.

From my observations within my colleagues and network of women in cybersecurity, I have witnessed the unique contributions that women bring to this field. While this message specifically targets women in cybersecurity, it serves as an invitation to all individuals who are contemplating joining the ranks of cybersecurity professionals. At Be Cyber Smart, our focus is on educating individuals from all demographics about cyber safety, and we cannot achieve this without individuals who possess a deep understanding and passion for cybersecurity.

We firmly believe that with the right level of passion and dedication, our ambassadors can bring awareness to this critical social issue. Whether it is educating a group of middle school students about privacy settings, guiding parents on proper ways to monitor their children’s online activities, or ensuring the elderly are protected from various scams, Be Cyber Smart recognizes that each individual has the ability to tailor their message and educational plans to raise awareness. Even a small contribution from those with the right exposure can make a significant impact.

Let us join forces to bridge the gender gap in cybersecurity and cultivate a diverse and inclusive industry. Together, we can create a safer digital landscape for all.
